Platform Assigment : Global Positioning System #4,7,8

4) Who is the intended market / target audience?

The intended market and target audiences are for everybody. At beginning, it was intended for the army to find location. However, in these days most of people who are in air force, land, sea to navigate the location, and people who surveying mapping, and natural resource managers are using GPS to do research.
Method: These days GPS is finding its way into construction equipment, movie making gear, farm machinery, and even laptop computers.
Intended market or target audiences are most of people who is looking for or researching the area or locating position.
1. Location- determining a basic position.
2. Navigation - getting from one location to another.
3. Tracking - monitoring the movement of people and things.
4. Mapping- creating maps.
5. Timing - providing precise timing

7) What sort of media are played or used on this platform?

This media are played on the screen of computer for the Google Maps in to SG or JPEG maps, and most of interactive map can be viewed in most any Web browser. It can be also viewed as KML file and can be created to USGS aerial, USGS topo, NRCan.

8) What is the future of your chosen platform? How might it change over time?

Probably within 10 years, GPS will be developed even further so that people can easily access, and will get quicker signal fixes, and GPS system would be embedded in the watch and would not have problem receiving from GPS signal.
Russian Aerospace Agency has approved that they will have long term plan for the period 2002-2011 which they would constellate 24 satellites, and have 18 operational satellites by end of 2007 and 24 operational satellite by end of 2010.( GLONASS :The Global Navigation Satellite System)
The market using GPS will be doubled as the development of GALIEO. This system will improve the positioning and navigation applications by making faster, easier, and productive. Therefore, it will bring numerous benefits for applications requiring fast and accurate positioning.
However, there are still private issues to consider. Hopefully in the future, private information should be protected.

GPS technology has matured into a resource that goes far beyond its original design goals.
